To provide guidance for Regent Law students pursuing sports law, the Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law Society (IPELS) hosted a discussion, “Getting in the Game: How to Start a Sports Law Practice,” featuring Michael P. Giordano , Esq. of Vandeventer Black LLP. IPELS Board with Michael Giordano (second right) “While sports law is not currently taught at Regent, I wanted to give students the opportunity to hear from a local attorney who is new in the field and is creating a niche for himself,” states IPELS President Jennifer Brown. “I hope this dialogue helped current students who are interested in starting a sports law practice.” Giordano began his sports law practice, which is just one of his practice areas at Vandeventer, much like an entrepreneur begins a small business: through hard work, networking, and research. On February 11, four seasoned entertainment professionals gathered at the Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law Society (IPELS) Entertainment Law 360 panel to share their experiences in the field. IPELS President Jennifer Brown, who plans to become an entertainment lawyer, organized the panel as a joint event for Regent Law and School of Communication and the Arts students. Honorable Frank J. Santoro of the United States Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of Virginia, North Division, was a guest speaker in Professor Pryor’s UCC II Secured Transactions Course on Tuesday, October 29. Students involved in the Right to Work Practicum with Professor Bruce Cameron worked on the labor law case of Mulhall v. UNITE HERE, a case granted review by the Supreme Court of the United States, which may be mooted at Regent Law. So far this fall, the Civil Litigation Clinic has conducted intake on 23 different cases. 3L Donnie Gayle of Norfolk, Va, was featured in a student spotlight.
