Regent University Will Open Virginia Beach Campus for Fall 2020

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (April 30, 2020) – Regent University will open the Virginia Beach campus for face-to-face classes beginning on August 24, 2020.

“We are excited to welcome students back to campus for the fall semester,” said Dr. M. G. “Pat” Robertson, founder, chancellor & CEO of Regent University. “We will overcome these challenging days together as the Regent family. Every necessary precaution will be put in place to ensure the safest educational experience is available to the students we serve.”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Regent’s on-campus students transitioned to online courses to complete the spring 2020 semester.

“Regent is ready to continue offering a world-class education to all of our students – on campus and online – amidst the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our plans will ensure that students, faculty, and staff have access to the resources they need to stay fully engaged, safely and with confidence,” said Dr. Gerson Moreno-Riaño, executive vice president for Academic Affairs. “We are taking the utmost precautions to prepare our campus for safe instruction this fall.”

In order to protect students, faculty, and staff, Regent will implement state-of-the-art health and safety protocols including increased sanitation, appropriate student density in classrooms and housing, flexible study options, and COVID-19 testing and healthcare support provided through partnership with the medical community.

“Throughout the course of the upcoming summer and academic year, Regent officials will exercise diligence and responsiveness in determining what steps they need to take to protect all students, faculty, and staff, especially high-risk populations,” said Dr. Moreno-Riaño. “They will have the ability to put unique precautions in place.”

In April, Regent announced that it will freeze tuition for all classes offered in Fall 2020 through Summer 2021, both online and on-campus.

Regent officials continue to closely monitor state and federal directives and will update the Regent community as additional information becomes available. At present, the Commonwealth of Virginia has issued a stay-at-home order until June 10, 2020.

Regent Law Hires Two New Faculty Members—Both Yale Law Graduates—for Fall 2022

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (July 5, 2022) – Today, Regent University School of Law announced the appointment of two new members of its faculty, Erin Morrow Hawley and David D. Velloney. Both Hawley and Velloney are graduates of Yale Law School. Professor Hawley will teach constitutional law and serve as a senior fellow at the Robertson Center for Constitutional Law. Professor Velloney will focus on criminal law, military law, and constitutional criminal procedure. Regent Alumna Nominated for Two Judgeships

Tanya Bullock, a 2000 Regent Law graduate, has been nominated for a judicial position on Virginia Beach’s Circuit Court and for a vacancy in the city’s General District Court. Bullock founded the firm Bullock & Cooper with her twin sister, a 2002 Regent Law graduate. Bullock has been honored numerous times for her outstanding work in the legal field and on behalf of the community. Awards include Inside Business’s Top 40 Under 40 and Hampton Roads’s Outstanding Professional Women . Previous to founding her firm, Bullock worked as a local prosecutor. Only four others were nominated for the Circuit Court vacancy, including a current general district judge and a former delegate. Ten others were nominated for the General District Court position. Nominations were submitted last month to the Virginia Beach Bar Association, which distributed the names to members and asked them to rate the nominees. Three More Regent Law Alumni Appointed as Judges

Three more Regent University School of Law alumni have been appointed to judgeships, bringing the total number of Regent Law alumni currently serving on the bench to 28. The Virginia General Assembly filled eight vacant judgeships during a special session on Thursday, September 18. Earle C. Mobley ’89 was appointed as a judge for the Portsmouth Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Mobley has served as the commonwealth’s attorney in Portsmouth since 2002. Phillip C. Hollowell ’98 was appointed to the Virginia Beach Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Most recently, Hollowell has served as deputy commonwealth’s attorney in Virginia Beach.
